The Food Of Hell From Indonesia

Famous as one of the best tropical countries, Indonesia provides tons of uniqueness and excitement. Its nature, culture, and art always bring millions of tourist each year. However, this time we are going to talk about one thing, Indonesia’s cuisine, in particular, Sambal.

Sambal or sambel is infamous among tourist as the food of hell for its undeniable ability to make the consumer produces tears and sweat when eating. Produced using chili as its main ingredient, sambal is indeed taste extremely spicy. Sambal is an Indonesian loan-word of Javanese origin (sambel). It is native to the cuisines of Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Brunei, and Singapore. It has also spread through overseas Indonesian populations to the Netherlands and Suriname.

Sambal is made by grinding ‘cabai’ or chili, along with several complements such as onion, cherry,  tomato, ‘terasi’, sugar, and salt. The ingredients are grinded using traditional tool made usually from wood or plastic. The texture is smooth with a vibrant color of green and red, depending on which chili you use.

Traditionally sambal is used as an all-purpose condiment. It may be added to noodle dishes, soups, stews, meat, rice, and even eggs. Sambal can also be used to add heat and flavor to marinades, dips, sauces, and spreads.

Infamous among tourists for its spiciness, many tourists avoid it. However, some of them are challenged and try to eat it. Those who dare to try usually will get a stomach ache or turn very red and sweaty in the face. Though super spicy, locals eat it in almost daily basis as their main meal.

The World's Loneliest Whale: 52-hertz Whale

In the middle of the ocean,

It's been nicknamed as "the loneliest whale in the world". It sings a song like no other. Some say it wanders alone across the Pacific Ocean, crying out for companionship that never comes.

No-one knows for sure whether the whale is male or female, what species it is, or even if it still lives. The last in the original series of recordings was made in 2004.

The 52-hertz whale is an individual whale of unidentified species, which calls at the very unusual frequency of 52 Hz. This pitch is much higher frequency than any other whale or even the other whale species with migration patterns most closely resembling this whale's, like the blue whale with 10–39 Hz or fin whale with only 20 Hz. It has been detected regularly in many locations since the late 1980s and appears to be the only individual emitting a whale call at this frequency.

The track of the 52-hertz whale is unrelated to the presence or movement of other whale species. Its movements have been somewhat similar to blue whales, but its timing has been more like fin whales. It is detected in the Pacific Ocean every year beginning in August–December and moves out of range of the hydrophones in January–February. It travels as far north as the Aleutian and Kodiak Islands, and as far south as the California coast, swimming between 30 and 70 km each day. 

Scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution have been unable to identify the species of the whale. They speculate that it could be malformed, or possibly a blue whale/fin whale hybrid. The research team has been contacted by deaf people who believe the whale may be deaf. Still, its unique call is the only one of its kind detected anywhere and there is only one such source per season. Because of this, the animal has been called the loneliest whale in the world.

The story begins in 1989. An array of hydrophones called SOSUS, built by the US Navy to detect enemy submarines, picked up some strange signals. They were whale songs, and they were similar to blue whale calls, but there was one big difference.The keynotes of the song were at a frequency of 52 Hertz. To human ears, this is a low bass note, but it is significantly higher than the blue whale, which sings between 10 and 40Hz. Fin whales also seemed like an unlikely fit, since they sing at 20Hz.

The signal of the whale was recorded in the northeast Pacific. It has been sped up ten times, raising the pitch to 520 Hz since that is too deep for the human ear or, at best, at the very fringes of a person’s hearing,

It was Bill Watkins, a marine mammal researcher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Massachusetts, who first realized the significance of the Navy's recordings. For Watkins, tracking the 52Hz whale became a passion.

He passed away in 2004, aged 78, but a few months before his death he completed work on a paper that summarised 12 years' worth of recordings. His findings would be discussed for years to come. Watkins had found that the 52Hz whale was not just unusual, but outright unique.

  

"It is perhaps difficult to accept that if this was a whale, that there could have been only one of this kind in this large oceanic expanse," Watkins and his colleagues wrote. "Yet in spite of comprehensive careful monitoring year-round, only one call with these characteristics has been found anywhere, and there has been only one source each season."

There are plays and books about the whale and music videos that use it as inspiration. 
The Loneliest, a short documentary film about two women searching for the loneliest whale, was made in April 2014 by Lilian Mehrel, with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Montreal-based saxophone player and composer Colin Stetson's 2013 album New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light included a song entitled "Part of Me Apart From You". Though not explicitly written about the 52-Hertz whale, when first performing the song live, he has remarked on at least several occasions that the story of the "loneliest whale" resonated deeply with his composition. "This whale is alone in a large body of water, swimming, singing its song, calling for a likeness it will never find," he said by way of introducing the song at a performance at Toronto's Great Hall on 19 May 2013. "When I play this song, I can't help but think about this whale, who right at this very minute is singing alone."

South Korean hip-hop group BTS's 2015 album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2's fourth track, "Whalien 52", explicitly uses the 52-hertz whale as a metaphor for the alienation from others often felt by adolescents.


The English folk duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman included the song "52 Hertz" on their 2015 album Tomorrow Will Follow Today. The song is about the whale and includes the line, "52 Hertz, 52 Hertz, I'm singing a love song that no-one can hear" in the chorus.

The Little Red Riding Hood (Narrative text)

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived in a village near the forest. Whenever she went out, the little girl wore a red riding cloak, so everyone in the village called her Little Red Riding Hood.

One morning, Little Red Riding Hood asked her mother if she could go to visit her grandmother as it had been awhile since they'd seen each other.

"That's a good idea," her mother said.  So they packed a nice basket for Little Red Riding Hood to take to her grandmother.

When the basket was ready, the little girl put on her red cloak and kissed her mother goodbye.

"Remember, go straight to Grandma's house," her mother cautioned.  "Don't dawdle along the way and please don't talk to strangers!  The woods are dangerous."

"Don't worry, mommy," said Little Red Riding Hood, "I'll be careful."

But when Little Red Riding Hood noticed some lovely flowers in the woods, she forgot her promise to her mother.  She picked a few, watched the butterflies flit about for awhile, listened to the frogs croaking and then picked a few more. 

Little Red Riding Hood was enjoying the warm summer day so much, that she didn't notice a dark shadow approaching out of the forest behind her...

Suddenly, the wolf appeared beside her.

"What are you doing out here, little girl?" the wolf asked in a voice as friendly as he could muster.

"I'm on my way to see my Grandma who lives through the forest, near the brook,"  Little Red Riding Hood replied.

Then she realized how late she was and quickly excused herself, rushing down the path to her Grandma's house. 

The wolf, in the meantime, took a shortcut...

The wolf, a little out of breath from running, arrived at Grandma's and knocked lightly at the door.

"Oh thank goodness dear!  Come in, come in!  I was worried sick that something had happened to you in the forest," said Grandma thinking that the knock was her granddaughter.

The wolf let himself in.  Poor Granny did not have time to say another word, before the wolf gobbled her up!

The wolf let out a satisfied burp, and then poked through Granny's wardrobe to find a nightgown that he liked.  He added a frilly sleeping cap, and for good measure, dabbed some of Granny's perfume behind his pointy ears.

A few minutes later, Red Riding Hood knocked on the door.  The wolf jumped into bed and pulled the covers over his nose.  "Who is it?" he called in a cackly voice.

"It's me, Little Red Riding Hood."

"Oh how lovely!  Do come in, my dear," croaked the wolf.

When Little Red Riding Hood entered the little cottage, she could scarcely recognize her Grandmother.

"Grandmother!  Your voice sounds so odd.  Is something the matter?" she asked.

"Oh, I just have a cold," squeaked the wolf adding a cough at the end to prove the point.

"But Grandmother!  What big ears you have," said Little Red Riding Hood as she edged closer to the bed.

"The better to hear you with, my dear," replied the wolf.

"But Grandmother!  What big eyes you have," said Little Red Riding Hood.

"The better to see you with, my dear," replied the wolf.

"But Grandmother!  What big teeth you have," said Little Red Riding Hood her voice quivering slightly.

"The better to eat you with, my dear," roared the wolf and he leapt out of the bed and began to chase the little girl.

Almost too late, Little Red Riding Hood realized that the person in the bed was not her Grandmother, but a hungry wolf.

She ran across the room and through the door, shouting, "Help!  Wolf!" as loudly as she could.

A woodsman who was chopping logs nearby heard her cry and ran towards the cottage as fast as he could.

He grabbed the wolf and made him spit out the poor Grandmother who was a bit frazzled by the whole experience, but still in one piece."Oh Grandma, I was so scared!"  sobbed Little Red Riding Hood, "I'll never speak to strangers or dawdle in the forest again."

"There, there, child.  You've learned an important lesson.  Thank goodness you shouted loud enough for this kind woodsman to hear you!"

The woodsman knocked out the wolf and carried him deep into the forest where he wouldn't bother people any longer.

Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother had a nice lunch and a long chat afterwards.

Welcome to my another blog! (yay)
This time, I'm gonna tell you about my experiences attending my school's event,

GATHAPRAYA: Literaty and Cultural Art Festival

If you live in Bandung, you've probably ever heard about this festival, because this event is really big and kind of popular *ahem. This is a culture festival, organized fully by my school, SMAN 3 Bandung. So I, as one of the students of SMAN 3 Bandung, should attend the festival. It's totally a must to pay for the ticket lol. Well, even if I weren't a student of SMAN 3, I'd probably still go.

To be honest, this was the first cultural festival I had ever attended. It was kind of an exhausting yet so worth it day. Oh, have you ever gone to a cultural festival before? If you haven't, well you should! Why? Read my blog entirely and you'll know why :p

The festival took place on Lapangan Bali, and it was held on Sunday, 30 September 2017. There are some events before the open gate of Gathapraya, such as a parade and fashion show. The parade, we have to walk together from Saparua Park until Lapangan Bali with some Gathapraya banners to attract people to attend Gathapraya. For the fashion show, it's only for grade X. Every class of grade X were ordered to choose two representations of their class, a boy and a girl, to do a fashion show competition. My class, X MIPA 2 chose Karin and Nicolas as the participants of the fashion show. They actually didn't want to do it, but the whole class chose them so what can they do? lol.

Because they actually didn't want to do it, they were kind of ignorant toward the fashion show. They didn't want to care about the clothes or anything at all related to the fashion show. Especially Nicolas. He was being really ignorant istg, I personally thought, it was annoying.

In the Sunday night, or the night on Saturday, H-1 Gathapraya, we still had no clothes for Nico and Karin. Because I did a shameless mistake that I can't mention here, I felt guilty and I thought that I had to do anything in order to make them do the fashion show. At first, we tried to search a place we could rent an Indonesian traditional clothes from which I finally found it, its name was Jawijawi, and made an appointment with the owner at 5.30 a.m.

So I told the two of them and they agreed. Karin wanted me to accompany her since it'd be awkward if it was just the two of them alone. I agreed, she'd come to my house first and we'd go to Jawijawi by car.

4.00 a.m. I woke up and did some activities. I finished right at 5.00 then waited for Karin about 15 minutes, then we went to Jawijawi. To my surprise, Nico had already at the place before us, to think that he was really lazy with the fashion show, it was a miracle that he arrived earlier. Anyway, they put on the clothes and the accessories there. We finished at around 7.30, and went to Saparua Park afterwards. We were a bit late, around 10 minutes late because it was a bit far and, not to mention, the traffic jam.

We did the parade lazily. Karin and Nico were riding horses during the parade. Karin's face was calm although her horse was weird, it looked like it was a drunk horse lol.

So we finally arrived on Lapangan Bali and we literally sat anywhere. We also met our classmates, they stayed up in the night for the sake of Gathapraya, they were the committees.

Karin and Nico did a good job in the fashion show, but our class didn't win though.

Anyway after that we ate some food and snacks until around 19.00, oh right. There were many interesting food stalls and some food trucks, some interesting spots about Indonesian culture, like gerabah and gamelan spots.

The 'main' attraction probably started around 8 p.m. That time was the time for the well-known artists and bands to perform. They are Elephant Kind, HiVi!, and NIDJI. HiVi! was the artist I looked forward so much, and yes. They performed perfectly!

The last performance was from NIDJI and I'm not gonna lie, the lighting was really breathtaking. Seriously, I was so amazed only by the lighting. The committees really did a great job!

The festival finally ended at around 11.30 p.m. It was really an exhausting day, yet a worth it and an unforgettable day.

So..., do you finally understand how memorable a culture festival can be? Well actually it depends on yourself too. If you don't like crowds, then you might not like this, but I think it's not really good to just stay at home doing nothing? Buuut, again it depends on your character and personality.

Universal Studios Japan - Be There or Be Square

Welcome to my blog once again.
So I had a work with my friend, Karin Hanasyanila Salma (check out her blogs: karinhanasyanilasalma.blogspot.co.id), to tell you guys about a place that we want to share. We will tell you about Universal Studios Japan!

Universal Studios Japan is an amusement park that located in Osaka, Japan. It is one of the four Universal Studios in the world. Over 11 million guests visited the park and making it the world fastest amusement park to have achieved the 10 million milestone at the time. It's really amazing. After we searched on the internet, we're really attracted by the rides in the park. Especially there is a famous attraction in the park called "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter."

Imma buy eggs because I'm eggscited to tell you guys about that. Lmao dad joke.

By the way, we also made a drawing about Universal Studios Japan. I don't know if its good or not, you can see it yourself. And we also shot a video of ourselves describing this place. It's about 5 minutes, so it won't take too long.

Lost My Way

Hello! This blog will tell you about my experience that I would never forget. I know this is going to be boring and cliche, but I hope you enjoy this. Haha.

It happened back then when I was 7 years old. That time, I still remember that I wanted to have a cashier-machine-toy. Yeah, I wanted to be a cashier, mostly because of the machine that made “pip...pip...pip” sounds everytime a product’s barcode past the red light, as known as the censor. Then the machine will print the bill automatically. I was sooo interested with that that I wanted to have one.

And I saw that toy at a certain mall when my mom wanted to buy shoes for me. I seriously couldn’t take my eyes off of that toy. Then, I walked to that toy stall slowly. I entered the stall and I played with the toy for a moment before I suddenly realized I had separated from my family. I panicked a lot and started crying. I couldn’t believe I could be this clumsy. I cried while thinking about scary things that could possibly happen. I’m not sure about what I was thinking, but maybe I was thinking about what if a stranger would suddenly come at me and kidnap me? What would I do if that happens? Seriously, I was still young but my mind are kind of wild. I couldn’t stop thinking about scary things lol.

Then a security man came at me, “What’s wrong, child? Where’s your parents? Did you get lost?” he said. I could only nod and kept crying while screaming , “MAMAAAA....” then he took me to the information center. The lady there asked my mom's name. I answered, and waited for about 5 minutes. I was so scared, anxious, and sad in that 5 minutes. After that, I saw my mom and she looked so bright lol. I was so sad but I was so happy and glad. She held me then carried me in her arms. I cried even more. I was so glad yet suuper sad. I was really grateful that the security man approached me and asked what happened and he took me to the information center. I was so grateful that the lady at the information center helped me. And most importantly, I was extremely grateful nobody wanted to kidnap me (lol) and I could come back to my family. To my home. :)

Plans for Next Holiday

Today is the last day of school for this semester. Widy, Karin, and I are talking about holiday, which is coming near. Yes, the days without school that we've always wanted these time is just in front of our eyes.

Fawwazti: "Ayo guys wazzup!!!"

Karin: "AYoooo Pew, nothing's up."

Widy: "What do you mean, it's the sky."

Karin: "Oh right. Ahahah that's funny."

Fawwazti: "Guys guys, are you all thinking what I'm thinking?"

Widy: "Nope, I'm not thinking about boys at the moment."

Fawwazti: "Heyyy! My mind is not always full of boys, you know."

Karin: "HAha! Is it about holiday? If it's it, then we're thinking the same. Ho-ho-holiday!"

Fawwazti: "Aish, you got me gurl! I ought to watch BTS' new MV again, it was so damn lit yeah!

Widy: "And you just said you're not thinking about boys."

Fawwazti: "Okay okay, anyway what will you do next holiday? I will go to the Moon or maybe Mars, or maybe both!"

Karin: "OMG! That's so coool! I'll travel The Land of Bamboos, it's in Japan."

Widy: "Well, nice places you got there guys, for me I'll go to South Korea."

Karin: "Why would you go to that place if we're going to go there together next 2 years?"

Widy: "LOL, I just wanted to, and I'll attend WannaOne fansign and I'll tell Guanlin that I like him sooo much!

Fawwazti: "...and you said you're not thinking about boys at the moment. Anyway, send my love for Suga okaayyy!"

Karin: "You too, Pew, why will you go to The Moon and Mars?"

Fawwazti: "I don't really know, 'cause there's almost nothing in them, but hey, who knows maybe I can see those creatures called Alien."

Widy: "That's true though."

Karin: "You know, I know, Alien is just a myth."

Fawwazti: "Oh, that's right. Whatever don't you think The Moon is interesting? Same goes for The Mars. It's a good place to visit right? Both are anti-mainstream spots for holiday."

Widy: "What about you, Karin? Why will you go there?"

Karin: "It's because of advertisement. It looks soo interesting. That's why."

Fawwazti: "You all, with whom will you go? I'll go with my boyfriend hahah."
Widy: "I'll go alone. Hashtag forever alone."

Karin: "I'll go with my big family."

Widy: "How will you go there? Maybe I'll use plane. I haven't bought the tickets though."

Fawwazti: "For me, of course I'll use rocket."

Karin: "I'll go there by plane~. Anyway, what's your second plan? For me it's Antartic. I'll make friends with peguins yaay."

Widy: "I'll travel Indonesia for my plan B"

Fawwazti: "My second plan huh, maybe Venus. As long as it's in outer space LOL. Okay guys, my bodyguards are here. I have to go home, see you on January the second~"

Karin: "My helicopter is here too, see ya guys! Don't forget to buy souvenirs haha."

Fawwazti: "Alright~"

Widy: "Okay then, be careful guys, I'll go back home alone. Bye.."

Conversation (Assignment on 10.8.2017)

This is the first day of school. Ren and Yoon Ji are put in the same class and met each other for the first time in a certain international school in Indonesia. It's 6.00 AM but the class starts at 7.00 AM.

Ren: Umm.. Hello, I'm Shishio Ren, what's your name?

Yoon Ji: Oh, hi, Shishio. You're so early. I'm Min Yoon Ji. You can call me Yoon Ji. It's nice to meet you.

Ren: Okay then, Yoon Ji. Nice to meet you too, and call me Ren. Also, you're early too

Yoon Ji: Hehe, thanks Ren, umm, how old are you?

Ren: I'm 15. What about you?

Yoon Ji: I'm 15 too! Anyway, where do you come from?

Ren: I came from Japan. I just moved to Jakarta last year because I have a cousin that lives here and I'm interested with Indonesia. What about you?

Yoon Ji: Whoa... I'm from South Korea. I've been in Indonesia for 2 years now because of my dad's job. What makes you interested in Indonesia if I may ask?

Ren: I personally think the culture in Indonesia is really unique and awesome. I really enjoy watching Wayang shows even though I don't understand what the dalang is talking about, really! Oh, I also like listening to the traditional music plays here like Angklung it's fantastic!

Yoon Ji: I know right!! I've been falling in love with Angklung since the first time I listened to it. How about temple? Have you gone to a Borobudur or Prambanan temple? Those two are the most popular ones I think.

Ren: I haven't, but I've done quite a lot research for those temples and it's pretty interesting! I'll go there on the next holiday.

Yoon Ji: You should! For me, I like Indonesian's traditional dance so much! The thing is, I like dancing and in South Korea there are so many idols or group bands that dance with pop musics, but to me, Indonesian's traditional dance is more expressive and is very beautiful.

Ren: I'm not really into dances, because I can't dance ahaha, but maybe I'll check out some later.

Yoon Ji: Yes. Oh! The teacher is coming. It was nice to talk to you, Ren. My seat is 2 rows beside you. See you later.

Ren: Yeah, it's nice to talk to you too, Yoon Ji! And see you at the break time.

It's All About Me

It's All About Me

Hi there! I want to introduce myself. My name is Fawwazti Rasendria. People usually call me Asti. I was born in Bekasi, 15 January 2003. I'm now fourteen years old. I'm a freshmen in Senior High School 3 Bandung. I want to tell you more about me in this blog.

I have a short hair but you won't see that because I wear hijab, I'm kind of short, my height is only 153 cm. My shoe size is 37. I have dark brown eyes. I have asymmetry eyebrows since I was born. 

I have some hobbies that I usually do if I'm bored, they're singing, drawing, listening to the music, or reading comics or novels. I like singing and I sing a lot at my home but don't ever expect that I have a beautiful voice. I like drawing a person with Japanese animation style because of Japanese animation, which often called as Anime, I started to like drawing. I also like listening to the music and my favorite genre of music is pop and hip hop. I like reading comics, especially fantasy, comedy, or romance comics, and reading thriller or romance novel. Also, I usually swim every week.

I have an elder sister and a younger brother. I love them so much. My sister's nickname is Riris and my brother's is Bima. My sister is currently studying at Institut Teknologi Bandung and my brother is studying at SMPN 22 Bandung.

My interest is to learn some new languages. I want to learn Japanese and Arabic but currently I'm studying Germany. My favorite lesson is Math, Biology, and English.

I am an awkward person at first but as soon as you know me, I'm different. My friends from junior high often tell me that I'm hyperactive, too kind, crybaby, but sometimes I'm a happy virus.
